Kansas City outside Kansas?

Main Post:

Why most part of Kansas City is in Missouri? And how the administration is regulated by the city?

Top Comment: I think Kansas City, Missouri is older than the state of Kansas.

Should the United States move their capital to a more centrally located city within the country?

Main Post:

See, Washington D.C , at the time when the country was founded, was actually centrally located , as it was among the frontiers of the south in Virginia and the north in Maryland, the two halves of the nation.

However , as the nation went westward , Washington D.C. cease to be centric , and just located in the overcrowded northeast corridor , if the capital is moved to another city(probably in Kansas or missouri), the best would be a planified city intending to the following objectives:

1- ease the communication to all states : Reducing fuel consumption for the government jets and then reducing carbon emissions and optimizing travel times

2-more coordination in the time zones: Thus , helping alleviating all the coordination needed for example, to travel from California to D.C , as they cross 4 time zones

3-Setting a Landmark of the development of the west: Like California(currently the most popolous state) Texas Arizona Seattle All this states had become important centers of technology, politics and more in the nation.

Top Comment: I don’t really see the point at this point Travel and communication is irrelevant at this point considering that communication is instantaneous. But considering that the country’s most densely populated areas are still on the east coast, it makes sense to have the capital in the same time zone.

Not trying to be rude but Richmond is a bit more southeast (as a Virginian) still a great map though.

Why is the United States’s capital placed so weirdly? Why is it so far east?

Chetopa: Poorest Town in Kansas

Main Post:

Chetopa (pop. 1,000) has been declared the poorest town in the Sunflower State. It is located 30 minutes east of Coffeyville in SE Kansas. https://www.ksnt.com/news/this-is-the-poorest-city-in-kansas/

Top Comment: I used to drive through Chetopa with my grandpa when I was a teenager. There used to be, maybe still is, a sign when you go through that says "Catfish Capital of the World." Back around 2005 or so, I was working on a tiny island way out in the Central Pacific. A US Navy ship docked and some sailors came to my workplace to do some repairs. I got to talking with one of them and he said he was from Kansas. I asked him where in Kansas and he said that I wouldn't know it. I said, "Try me." He answered," Chetopa." I lit up and said, "You mean the catfish capital of the world? Everyone knows that place." He was so damned puzzled. I had a good laugh about that later.
